Everywhere I look I see people saying things like "noo you cannot make a sunscreen you must buy one from a skincare megacorporation instead!!"

it just feels like they all are shilling, does anyone have information on diy zinc sunscreens working or not working?

It's very hard to make them at home, most likely due to the nanoparticles in them

they are easy to make the issue is that you can't get much higher than 20 spf which isn't enough

the PA+ is also very shit.

it is rather hard to find good sunscreens most of them contain hormone disruptors or alcohol.

I mostly am talking about buying a tallow balm with zinc infused for daily wearing
so not making it myself, but also not buing it from a company that has that exact sunscreen certified

is it really not enough?
quick google search returned this: "a product SPF 15 blocks approximately 95% of UV rays, a SPF 30 protects you against 96.7% of UVB rays, while an SPF 50 stops about 98.3% of UVB rays"

seems fine to me for daily indoor wearing, but I'm not knowledgeable on this, is it really not enough?

yeah, all of them are greasy as fuck, expensive and hard to pair with other skincare products
I really feel like buying and trying 15 different products until I find one that isn't shit!

I used it for an entire summer without burning so there's that (I work outside for 7+ hours a day), the oils also made my skin soft, but my face skin did take a hit from it.

1% difference accumulated over many days is still a lot, if you're going to do it just use it for your body and use a spf 50 on your face with PA+++++

you mean non-certified tallow sunscreen?

my logic is kindof like this: I have hated wearing every sunscreen I have ever bought (they all were utter shit), so that leads to skipping it, which leads to more sun damage
I use tallow as a moisturizer, like how it feels, so if it also provided some sun protection, then it would be a big improvement no? wearing it indoors & during the winter days too

(I'd still apply classic pharma sunscreen when going out to the scorching sun in the summer tho)

I used coconut oil and shea butter.

you can probably just heat tallow and mix it with zinc oxide

thanks

I ordered this one:
1732220371514

I contacted the seller about the spf value, and they claim that their product has been "validated by an in vivo test by an independent laboratory, establishing SPF value of the recipe" but for some reason they were not able to provide results of this test which is sus but whatever

if it doesn't work just mix it with shea butter, it doesn't clog your pores and gets hard too.

coconut oil if you want it to stay liquid but it does kind of clog pores although I never had issues with it.

Yeah brah, better just smear some zinc and coconut oil on your skin instead of a sunscreen that is formulated to look and feel good on the skin and actually provide a high spf:feelsuhh:

if they are formulated to feel good on the skin why do they feel terrible on the skin?

I really don't know which sunscreens you tried, I have some that I am very happy with. But yeah, sunscreens with sp50+ don't feel like the lightest moisturizer ever cause it's a fucking sunscreen. If you wanna slather beef tallow and zinc on your face, then do it. It just won't give you any real sun protection and I highly doubt that it looks aesthetically pleasing. Just bite the bullet and put on some real sunscreen when uv index is 3+.
