According to new stats, people who identify as Black make up a small minority less than 15% of the population with most Dominicans identifying as mixed race. Around 10% identify as White. Lots of Dominicans have a similar amount of black ancestry as black Americans, they are just more mixed with native American ancestry than American blacks

They're a mix between Mulattoes, Blacks, Tri-Racials, and Whites.

It also varies depending on the region. Cibao has more Tri-Racials and Whites.

Santo Domingo and surrounding areas have more Mulattoes and Blacks.

They actually vary quite a bit even though they still have more Blacks among them than other Hispanics.

15% black is giga cope, I'd say 80% of them are racially part-negro, and that's a significant part. There is some purity in the old Spanish blooded ruling class, but the average joe is either a negro or a negro-leaning mulatto.

Self-identification is probably so low because Dominicans have a culture that doesn't glorify negroes, and being light-skinned is actually desired.
