in the sense that when they order 3 big macs, 5 large fries, box of 20 chicken nuggets and a diet coke, yeah

Calorie-dense food (ie. processed food, read meat) is more tasty than food low in calorie density (ie. vegetables, white meat with no breading).
Generating a calorie deficit requires willpower.
Some people also have serious hormonal problems. My mom was obese and she didn't actually eat much.
Let's take something as simple as Pop Tarts.
Each Pop Tart weighs only 50 grams but it's 190 calories. And in order to save money, Kelloggs puts 2 Pop Tarts in each wrapper. So most people put two Pop Tarts in their toaster/toaster oven/conventional oven instead of just one. For a grand total of 380 calories. 100 grams of food.

Which is going to fill you up more?
380 calories of Pop Tarts (100 grams)
or
380 calories worth of skinless unbreaded chicken breast with no seasoning?

COPE. Cottage cheese is not bad but it's meh. I don't like raw onions. I like carmelized onions.

I know the reason why I'm fat. Consuming too many calories. Not too many carbohydrates. Foods high in fat and protein can still make you fat. If you eat too many calories.
Pretty much every carbohydrate-dense food that is demonized by low-carb acolytes is also high in calorie density.
For example, two slices of bread used to make a sandwich is generally 200-240 calories right there. No shit salad with no dressing is going to lead to weight loss. Replacing bread, pasta, rice with steak, eggs and sausage (high-fat high-protein foods) is not going to lead to weight loss.

For me it's hard to lose weight because my dad prepares like at least 75% of my meals when I'm not out with friends or my gf. And the meals he prepares are calorie-dense.
