Are narrow temples ideal?

hell no, your temples should roughly be the same width as your cheekbones, only slightly narrower.

most of the guys you posted don't actually have narrow temples, it just looks that way because their hairlines insert closer to their face, covering part of the temples and making the forehead appear narrower.

Focal length is important. Smaller focal lengths will make every protruding element pop more making temples look smaller and cheekbones bigger. Higher focal lengths will make everything flatter and wider/larger. If we are comparing, we should do it within the same or similar focal length range.
