I did mouth widening a few months back. I would use my fingers and slowly stretch it for a good 5 mins and do it every few hours for a couple days.

Then I saw a boy online whose mouth was much wider after orthodontic treatment than before. He looked amazing. Turned out the headgear he had worn was designed to stretch his mouth commisures (corners) extra wide while being used for treatment of his overbite. Most headgear doesn't do that (orthodontist site didn't show the design he'd used on the boy).

palate expansion widens the mouth. I doubt stretching your mouth will do anything without palate expansion.
