it looks like he shot himself dead then hid the weapon somewhere far away from the crime scene just to fuck with forensics, then came back and hung himself

Yes, shoting yourself with a shotgun then hiding the gun would help with an insurance claim. Presumably they researched his finances in arriving at the decision.

Or someone heard the gunshot, investigated, found a dead body and a gun, figured there wasn't anything they could do to help the dead guy, but that they would like to have the nice gun.

He wasn't aging well, his wife was a fat fuck, and it does not appear he had or was making money, then he gets tarred with being an Epstein Enabler,
