Manga readers have already known about this shit for 2 years lol

you gotta admit isayama pulled a masterclass troll, made everyone think that eren was one of the greatest written characters of all fiction only to reduce him to a simp with yellow fever

I heard the rumors that there would be twist at the end not like the manga but yeah that was BS.

I wonder why isayama did this hyping for 10 years building up erens character just to ruin him in 10 sec

He's got to be the biggest troll i have ever seen.

Unfortunately JJK my favourite ani/manga in modern day is going downhill facing a similar problem. The most recent arc is a significant step down from the previous and characters are being treated like complete and utter trash. This doesn’t even mention how bad the pacing has gotten.

Lol I tried to warn people on here. The author is a Hack who bowed down to a specific demographic in his fanbase that’s why the ending turned out how it did

anime as a whole genre is garbage and mid

It was such an obvious retcon I wondered how he thought he would get away with it, especially since he even stated in multiple interviews that Eren only saw mikasa as a mother-type figure and that her obsessive behavior was toxic.

Only to validate all of that in the end by having him simp for her out of nowhere and letting her molest his decapitated head.

And that’s not even the worst aspect of that ending JFL

Bingo. Can’t believe I committed so much time to reading that story for that bullshit.

Shit fucked me up for like a week after the final chapter now I can never even reminisce about the good times I used to have reading it that’s how bad the final arc was

A bunch of these manga authors have serious issues when it comes to keeping the quality of their stories consistent tbh.

It’s become a running meme that a good chunk of them just fall off a cliff at a certain point in their serialization

Not even sure what comes over them, seems to be far more common in mangas than other works of fiction, maybe it’s the tight schedules causing them to rush endings. I think in isayama last case however it was the need to say “uhh genocide bad” despite the fact that the world he had built was only ever going to end one way

“Genocide bad but uhhh only if you complete it, perfectly okay if you do 70 percent genicide if the other 30 percent survives 👍”- isayama the retard

Worst part is Eren ended up get proved right anyway as the rest of the racist world destroyed his homeland anyway 😂

But yeah you are correct this is uniquely a Japanese running theme with the shit endings and drop off in quality.

Tight schedules are at least one factor but I think others play a role such as culture differences, burnout etc.

Reminded me of the Game of Thrones ending, same vibes.

I felt like the first episodes of the second season, specifically those covering Toji, were some of the best episodes ever - if you exclude the one where Gojo explains his plot armor bs, and why he didn't die when getting his head half chopped off.

Been going downhill after that point too though.

commit genocide, kill a few of his friends and end himself because of the internal guilt once he flattened the rest of the world, to ensure the survival of the people of his homeland who have suffered for so long.

But shounen are incapable of human nuance and always need the power of friendship/love to prevail, they can‘t imagine leaving a story with a dystopian ending.

I would have not wasted historias character I think isayama prepped her to be a love interest, so I would have the kid be erens (let’s be real he’s neglected mikasa for 4 seasons it’s too late for a romance now) and he did it so historian wouldn’t have to sacrifice herself.

Have the alliance fail their plan to stop Eren the specifics don’t really matter just that it is done just as most don’t die. Change Ymirs character back to how it originally was, a slave bound to the commands she was sentenced to in life rather than have the whole “I’m in love with the king” stupid shit.

Eren completes the rumbling up to say 95% by now he’s encroaching onto non-enemy territory. Canonically AOT takes place around the very early 1900’s to late 1800’s pre WW1 era. There are countries that have no dog in the fight and undeveloped countries with 0 means to fight or with knowledge of the wars. However Ymir unrelentingly continues her command and Eren realises as long as Ymir is in paths this will never end and she’ll continue to kill innocents and terrorise humanity as long as she’s there and the power of the titans exist.

However the paths needs a placeholder and Eren decides to be it. He frees Ymir and tells her that her duty is over and that she’s finally free. Here he commits to freeing her unlike the original where she continues rampage of her own accord until she sees mikasa decapitate Eren which is a stupid plot point.

Eren now takes over paths and sentences himself to a hell of his making and with that restraining the power of the titans. He wipes the memories of the titans and the outside world as well as the history lby controlling the eldians on paradis burning any clue of how things came to be.

The eldians wake up to a new tommorow. They knew they were surrounded and caged in walls but don’t know why, they step outside for the first time to a new world free for the first time without being wrecked by the guilt of their past. Fast forward characters such as falco, Gabi and Jean cross paths in the markets but don’t know why they know each other. They remember those who passed and that they were friends but don’t know how they died.

Eren watches from paths as the tree wilts away in shackles condemned forever signifying the loss of the titan powers. He looks to his child crying and brushes his hand on her head to keep her from crying as a spectre before historia walks in even though he cannot see her. Mikasa and armin sit by the tree where they hung out as kids with a space in the middle. Armin says “everything is ok now” mikasa says “yeah”. Then Armin says “oh how could I forget you” as they both cry. Erens spectre is in the middle projected from paths as he holds both their hands saying that this is all he ever wanted.

This is just a schizo write up. But this way Eren doesn’t turn into a flaming retard that starts crying about mikasa whom he made clear he never really had romantic feelings for 4 seasons straight. He’s not pathetic but he’s not a pacifist he’s even slightly physcotic but he does it all for his friends and his people. Eldia is no longer in constant fear of war like in the original and Eren still meets a horrific fate for his actions despite that he’s steadfast in the reasoning of why he did what he did.

The funny thing is your ending was basically the popular theory (with a few tweaks here and there) for how the story was going to end in manga community spaces when the story was still in full swing.

I’m pretty convinced isayama changed the ending due to the sheer amount of retconning, sloppy writing adm acharchter assasinations that occurred in the final arc

Eren was the father of historians child. You want proof? This was the original final panel of the manga drawn by isayama himself during some manga series exhibition video (he even got emotional after drawing it JFL the hack)

The panel basically says “you are free”. Eren telling his child with historia that it is free from the cycle of violence and oppression created by the titan legacy. After wiping out the rest of the world fulfilling the theme of children not being dragged into war by their parents like Eren with grisha. Zeke with Grisha. Grisha with his own father

You can tell it was changed because the themes of the story got destroyed while they would have been fulfilled if this was the ending

Eren always had a strong belief in the idea of freedom being an inherent right just for being born. Even carla his mother reaffirms this theme lol

Carla saying he doesn’t need to be special because he was one into this world

Even armin (before isayama made him into a retard) tells him you can’t change anything if you don’t sacrifice something in return (the sacrifice being the outside world and even his friends to save his home and child). The owl tells him the same thing lol

The owl is talking to grisha but these are memories directed at Eren (that’s why he mentions mikasa and armin)

Historia asking eren about having a child and we never get his answer??? Plus the mystery behind her pregnancy . Again isayama is a hack

AOT lost a lot of steam by splitting up its ending the way it did. Not only was the ending dogshit but we have like 4 different final seasons which got a lot of fans to lose interest. Ending lost a lot of hype.

Damn that historia scene totally missed me. Yea it really seemed to be the direction AOT was supposed to be headed. There were a couple of issues.

Isayama wanted to make mikasa a fleshed out character and further her romance towards Eren. Problem is it’s simply too late for that, all the previous seasons nothing between them was built rushing it at the end ruined her character more than helped her.

Another thing that pissed me off was Erwin’s afterlife scene congratulating hange for trying to stopEren. This is in contrast to his entire character he says beforehand there’s likely enemies outside the wall that need to be eliminated

F0B2D4B3 30F9 452B A73A 654A27841187

Which pretty much is my issue with all of the alliance, like why are they even trying to stop Eren? The only exceptions are those from Marley like Reiner and Annie.

Uniquely though I think where AOT went wrong wasn’t because of pacing issues like many other mangas having rushed endings. I think it’s a unique thing with Japan given their past isayama was getting criticism for supporting nationalism and fascism a big nono considering imperial japans history. So he tried to cop out with “Hmmm genocide bad mmkay”. This is despite the fact he made the outside world to be literally comically evil and hostile. There’s even a panel with a statement showing that eldians persecution and genocide is worse outside Marley.

There was a lot of retconning of characters and their motivations during the final arc to justify the new direction he decided to take the story. But like you said it was too late and as a result it all felt contrived and sloppy

Previously in an interview he said that Eren doesn’t see mikasa romantically which matches how he treated her until that ending (I’ll link the quote below) in fact he often found her obsession annoying

1699183020424

Meanwhile with historia….

1699183108492

“You’re the girl who saved me” 🤔

1699183187100

Stands up for her when the military wants to use her to breed (he refused to sacrifice her before the timeskip multiple times)

1699183276078

“There’s something I like about you know”
Eren to historia

1699183391525

Again telling her he won’t let them sacrifice her for purposeless breeding (but her let her sacrifice herself to breed with a farmer who used to bully her??? Makes no sense)

1699183581034

Eren calls her amazing. She blushes

1699183657529

Eren admires historia

Historia saves him even though he gave up on life here. Something that stuck with him after

1699184215066

“I’m not prepared to sacrifice historian’s life, I can’t tell anyone what I know, what should I do?” Kisses her hand sees the future.
Coincidence?

Even hange notices his feelings for JFL

1699184355136

Lol imagine if his relationship with mikasa got half this development????

Even mikasa knew lol

Yeah you are completely correct on the cultural differences that could have led him to change the ending.

As you know Japan prior to the end of world war 2 was deeply imperialistic and nationalistic and saw war as an ideal option to achieve their ends.

After the dropping of the nukes and the end of the war they became much more pacifistic and began to frown upon nationalism of any sort.

That’s why the original ending would have likely been frowned upon over there if he went through with it

Character moments are bad, a certain characters death status has been in limbo for 3 fucking years which is stupid so many CG subplots go absolutely nowhere, and imo they murchered Gojos character with 236

Anyway eren is a mogger
That one point is giving him infinite smv

It wasnt that bad imo. Not good tho and it prevents AOT from being the goat

Manga readers have already known about this shit for 2 years lol

Yeah the ending is one of the worst I’ve ever seen in any manga/anime medium by far, 10 years of this shit just for a complete let down
I hope Fujimoto doesn't mess with CSM ending
