Back then, I was wild and spontaneous. One night, I announced to the room of partiers, Dad and his girlfriend were there too, step brother as well, "I'm renting a passenger van and going to Mexico. Who wants to come?" Ah, yes, the origin of party buses!

"You're a fucking asshole," he said to me amidst the small crowd of drinkers. I told him he especially needed to come with me. He refused.

A week later, we're at the border staying in a motel. We had rented four rooms. We were still partying and about to take that shit into Mexico. My phone rings. I answered it and it was him. "Are you all there yet?"

I confirmed our location and reminded him, "You should have come."

"I know. The more I live, the more regrets I create. Have a good time."

Those were the last words I would hear him say. Later that night, he blew his brains out.
