Autodidactism

noun. the process or practice of learning a subject without a teacher or formal education; self-education: Abraham Lincoln is viewed as a model of autodidacticism.

The most effective way I have found of learning information is.
  1. Download PDFs of textbooks you want to learn online
  2. Upload it to a PDF reader (I use kindle desktop reader, you can use text to speech in most PDF readers).
  3. Highlight your notes and export them into a notetaking app (I use OneNote).

YouTube videos are a waste of time for a couple of reasons:
  • They often have incorrect information due to have a profit incentive.
  • You're largely dependent on the YT algorithm to decide what gets shown
  • They're often limited by the speed at which the person talks. I find that I can read faster than I can comprehend auditory information.
  • YouTube makes you lazy and distracted.

You don't need to know everything to know truth so focus targeting your studies on narrow but accurate source of information, don't try to click on every link of google since this is often a waste of time.

This means that you will have to strategically analyse how you dedicate your resources into learning. I often read Wikipedia to get overviews of topic so I can decide where to devote my resources too.

Use memory techniques to remember information better.

Results compound so make sure you are consistent with your self-learning adventures. Your IQ is heavily tied to your literacy in a sort of feedback loop which I cba to get into here.

Also learning is pretty much memorising a collection of rules (facts) that create a web of concepts (fact interlink in certain ways) around a topic that you want to learn. The more you know about a subject the more defined your knowledge net is.

a strategy i use for memorization courses like biology is cutting my nails

i make a small nick on the back of my fingernails, and by the shape I can remember what i was studying

only make a maximum of 10 cuts because it gets hard to remember all of it

the reason why is because if you get caught doing it, you cant be kicked out from your exam because you can claim its for something else

be careful so you dont cut too deep.

Aka read the text book, make notes and highlight them and then do what to memorize the actual content of the book?

PDF should clear up the memorisation part. You create a memorisation strategy that suits you.

The whole point of this thread is to put forward a strategy that will help you learn information as quickly and efficiently as possible.

that's the hard part though. what strategy worked for you?
Memory palace of a hotel. When I walk into the elevator every button (floor) is a number corresponding to a number page in a textbook I want to learn. Every room contains a different topic. Every building is a different textbook.
