Doubt. I’m guessing it’s closer to about 6’1.

Never lived in Friesland but grew up in Drenthe (close enough) and I’d say it’s about the same there.

No 6’4 dude is gonna feel small anywhere in the Netherlands compared to average.

You’ll always have the stories of tall guys with only really tall friends so they feel short, but that’s relative to their friend group (that aren’t representative).

Why?

I didn’t know the answer to this question, so I went and looked up the source I recall reading it from. Was a report by the CBS (Central Dutch Bureau of Statistics). https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/nieuws/2021/37/nederlanders-korter-maar-nog-steeds-lang

Turns out I had it wrong, it’s about 1cm shorter, not 1 inch (which is like 2.5cm). Short answer: Partly immigration, but growth has stalled for ethnic Dutch people, period.

In 2020, 19-year-old Dutch men were on average 182.9 cm tall, while 19-year-old women measured 169.3 cm. While we became increasingly taller over the course of the last century, growth has stopped since 1980.

Men born in 2001 became on average 1 cm shorter than the generation from 1980, and women on average 1.4 cm shorter.

The decrease is partly related to increased immigration of shorter population groups, but growth also stagnated among generations where both parents and all four grandparents were born in the Netherlands.”

So, yeah. No actual heigh decrease for native Dutchmen (probably), but certainly no increase, stopping a decades long trend. For Dutch (native) women there is a slight decrease, actually.

The data says 6'0 is average in all of Netherlands which includes short areas, ethnics. So I wouldn't be surprised if the average is 6'2 or 6'3 among native men

Unlikely.

What we know; average height among native Dutch men hasn’t increased since 1980, and average height among Dutch men born in 1980 isn’t 6’2-6’3 but rather 6’0-6’1.

This lines up closer with my anecdotal experience too. You’ll see lots of men about 6’0, but 6’2 and 6’3 is still noticeably taller than most. According to the report, about 21% of men are at least 190cm (6’3).

The 1cm decrease is accounting for all the ethnics born here within that 20 year time period heralding from shorter population.

Dutch women have actually grown shorter; so that really makes me think growth has stagnated for the men, and it’s not just ethnic influence.
