Looking up "heartthrobs" of any era will show that robust prettyboys always reigned supreme, it's nothing special to our times. Women always preferred softer features. Good chance that the male gaze was never seen as attractive but back then the female gaze had a lot less choosing power as men would lead more with resources + protection than looks back then. 60's-70's feels like the exception however where a bunch of boneless subhumans suddenly took advantage of the SMV boost that was finally growing out your hair. Now aesthetics have sort of reset again after the novelty has worn off.

You can also find short boneless subhumans across all eras. Facial aesthetics were doomed the moment mankind switched from a raw diet to a more processed one.

People haven't changed as much as we think they have. They've changed so little that you'll constantly have people arguing for both sides whether or not "men have fallen and become a bunch of underdeveloped weaklings" just as much as they argue "the new generation is 6'2+ average and completely jacked guys!".
