i've seen it mentioned on various places as some sort of holy grail.
what benefits does it give apart from losing weight fast ?

There are a whole host of benefits. Helps rebooting your metabolism, helps the digestive system, decreases inflammation in the body and blood sugar levels. Gets you quickly into ketosis if you’re going to diet hard after the fast cutting out carbohydrates a doing ketogenic diet for rapid fat loss.

You also save money by not buying food, while losing weight for free without doing some bullshit eating program. You don’t have to fast forever. 3 to 5 or 7 days if you are mentally prepared is pretty good.

Sort out your maintenance calories you’ll be consuming in the days after the fast before doing the fast that way you remain disciplined and maximize the effectiveness of the fat loss of the fast. You’ll want your caloric consumption to be 500 less than your maintenance calories.

This gives you a great start, keep protein around 150-200 grams and the other calories on carbohydrates and a bit of fat. Eat disciplined and you’ll shed weight consistently.

To preserve muscle when dieting, you should be lifting weights. If you have the energy for cardio you can add that in for further weight loss.
