Im sure we all sucked our thumbs as a baby/toddler, but why? could there possibly be an instinct to suck or thumbs? why did it bring us comfort? My theory is that deep down just like the instinct to walk there is an instinct to suck on your thumb. Obviously not for “looksmaxxing” but perhaps to simply expand the palette for and to promote better nasal breathing. I mean it kind of makes sense, no? At that age your skull is soft/malleable enough to move by that force. Not to mention it’s not a one time thing, instead it’s something you would do all the time no matter what, no matter where, no matter when. But if this is true (this has not been proven whatsoever) could that mean that “binkies” are actually wasting your potential? Think about it, it’s not applying anywhere near the same amount of force as your thumb, in-fact it’s not applying any force! Not only do you pull forward but you also push upwards, that combined with the soft/malleable skull of a baby/toddler. I see no reason invalid reason to say that babies/toddlers have an inherent instinct to suck their thumb, helping expand their Paulette and helping with their forward growth. Am I cooking?

Narrowed Upper Palate- As your child’s upper jaw forms, thumb sucking can cause the roof of the mouth to curve more intensely, reducing the amount of space between the teeth on the left and right side of the upper jaw. The strong flexing of the cheek muscles as your child sucks exacerbates the narrowing effect. Over time, the narrowness of the upper jaw prevents it from resting properly on the lower jaw.

Thumb sucking would only promote mouth breathing. There's a reason why bottle-fed babies are more likely to become mouth breathers than breast-fed babies. Good thought though.
