We spend our lives building a self like a sandcastle against the tide carefully, desperately, knowing the waves will come. We gather accomplishments, identities, beliefs, relationships, and pile them up into something we call “me.” We defend it. We polish it. We perform it.
But what if the goal isn’t to build a better castle?
What if it’s to realize you are the ocean?
We are taught to become someone.
But the truest freedom might be in embracing that you are, fundamentally, no one.
Not empty. Not meaningless.
But unbound.
The self is not a fixed thing. It is a verb. A process. A story you tell yourself so life feels less terrifying. You are not the thoughts that pass through you. You are not the job you hold, the opinions you defend, the past you clutch like a relic. These are things you haveor things that have you.
You are the awareness behind it all.
The silent witness.
The space in which everything appears and disappears.
