Being a deserter during a war is the bravest thing you can do

I often see people say that going to war is the bravest thing you can do. While I do admit that it’s brave to go straight into battle, I would have to disagree that it’s the bravest thing you can do. I would have to say being a deserter during a war where you were drafted is the bravest thing as you’re going against the nationalistic values that you’ve been taught, you can possibly be charged with treason and executed plus you’re risking never contacting your family again. As a soldier, you’re just another mindless drone with a gun but as a deserter you’re a human fighting for your survival
