Getting lean is about 50%-80% of what any given person needs to ascend. If you are above like 17% body fat you need to cut down. I see far to many people complaining on here about their aesthetics while they cant even see their own facial structures due to excess fat. I will never understand the logic of those who adamantly support bulking. Like obviously you should not be sickly thin and if you are then you need to up your fat, protein, and carb consumption. But if you are regular looking and your face is not gaunt then you need to stay well within 200 calories over maintenance. The only excuse for "bulking" is if your growth plates are less than 70% fused and you still have height gains to pursue. But even in that case its more important that you eat the right things than that you just eat in general. Eating ages you regardless and especially so if you have a subpar diet. So if you find yourself sitting at above 20% bodyfat without visible and defined abs, you need to take whatever measures are necessary (and healthy) to get yourself to a better place. Diet is so simple too. If its too hard just eggmaxx with three whole eggs a day and thats literally most of the nutrition you need in a 24 hour period.
