It's in the nature of appeal. Assuming you appeal to a large majority of women you in the process have multiple other guys who also appeal to that large majority and as a result you have increased competition within that appeal of women. Assuming that you pursue one within it relative to your looks level, odds are likely you aren't the only one pursuing her, and even worse, odds are likely someone more attractive than you is also pursuing her. And even if they aren't, she still finds them appealing and they're better looking than you despite both of you having the same appeal, possibly resulting in the persistent thought that she can do better. Reducing your chances with her in the process.
By being niche you do have narrower appeal but the demographic you do appeal to you appeal to considerably more. The reason for this is simple, if she has few people whom she finds appealing, then the few she does are gonna hold considerably more value in a sea of people she doesn't. The result of such a thing would mean you have less competition to worry about due to not having such wide appeal, she's more likely to like what you stand for, although that can be considered a drawback; say for example she only likes you because of your race, and she's less likely to cheat assuming that you're niche enough. It could also be argued that the minimum looks threshold relative to your nicheness is lower due to a lack of direct competition in comparison to groups with larger appeal.
This is all locational however as say for example your a thug in place with lots of thugs. This would result in you having “mass appeal” relative to your area entirely eliminating the niche you may have in comparison to your country/continent as a whole.
I also want to clarify that I'm not advocating for faking nicheness. If you're a niche person via interests, race (relative to your location), character, looks (still MTN or higher), etc. Then use it as a strength not a weakness. However if you're a more vanilla, normal, common, “neurotypical” guy it's probably easier to just accept that you are and still try to ascend and slay as is instead of pretending to be someone you're not.
