Why would anyone do this? I'm not bisexual, so perhaps I can't understand some deep yearning to be open about my sexuality, but why would you announce such a thing to the world? Not only will you repulse essentially all women besides smelly fat NEET girls into anime, but you will lose the respect of most men. It's a very foolish choice. Whatever LGBT status, affirmative action, special snowflake whatever you get for being openly bi, does it really make up for a large proportion of women (probably even the majority) not considering you suitable for sex or a relationship and destroying your friendships with many men who are uncomfortable with you despite their proclamations of tolerance? Even many gay men find bisexuals untrustworthy and unattractive. Only bi women can be openly bi and benefit from it. That's why so many women say they are: they get all the benefits of being part of the LGBT church, but they don't suffer any social consequences like bi men.

I thought it was a meme, most men who claim this are actually just gay, but they don't want to appear like fully homosexual, many try having relationships and sex with women, but ultimately they realize they are 100% gay.
