You spend 80% of your social and professional life around men, not women. Teens have become too fixated on female appeal, ignoring the bigger influence on a man's self-worth which is the male respect.
As a manlet, the lack of respect and authority in the room eventually turns you either into an overcompensating, loudmouthed lolcow or a mute loser with 0 confidence. Once you acknowledge that you're seen as less of a man, any sense of masculinity you've had is gone.
Meanwhile if you're ugly but tall, you still possess a masculine presence in the room. You may hear occasional jokes on your looks, but your existence is acknowledged and respected unlike manlet's.
Ugly man is still a man, manlet is not.
