People always talk about intelligence as if it is a gift, a sign of superiority, a blessing that makes you stand out. But the truth is bad. The more you think, the more you see, and the more you see, the less you can pretend that anything truly matters. Intelligence kills ignorance, and ignorance was the only real source of peace we ever had.
The smarter you are, the harder it becomes to stay happy. You analyze everything, every word, every moment, every relationship, until all the beauty disappears under logic and reason. Your brain turns into a prison built from awareness, and the more you understand the world, the less you can live in it.
People say knowledge is power, but in reality it is a slow poison. Power over what, over your own despair Intelligence exposes the patterns behind every illusion, every fake smile, every meaningless ambition. It shows you that people are driven by chemicals, by fear, by survival. Nothing more.
The dumb live easier because they still believe in something. They can love blindly, dream endlessly, and laugh without asking why. The intelligent ones, however, are cursed to question everything, to feel the emptiness behind it all, to see the end of every
path before taking the first step
So yes, intelligence is a curse disguised as a gift. It gives you sight, but steals your peace. You see too much, you think too deeply, and you realize too late that the smartest people are rarely the happiest

Intelligence and neuroticism in relation to depression and psychological distress: Evidence from two large population cohorts - PubMed
From two large cohort studies, our findings suggest intelligence acts a protective factor in mitigating the effects of neuroticism on psychological distress. Intelligence does not confer protection against diagnosis of depression in those high in neuroticism.

Childhood intelligence and risk of depression in later-life: A longitudinal data-linkage study - PubMed
This study provides additional evidence suggesting that higher childhood intelligence predicts reduced risk of later-life depression only when depression is assessed based on hospital admission records. Childhood family structure and adulthood socio-economic and geographical factors did not seem...

High intelligence is not associated with a greater propensity for mental health disorders - PubMed
The present study provides robust evidence that highly intelligent individuals do not have more mental health disorders than the average population. High intelligence even appears as a protective factor for general anxiety and PTSD.
