why china
There are many reasons, and I will only compare things with the US:
1. Much better and competent government
2. Everything you buy is cheaper
3. A much wider variety of products and services
4. E-commerce with a much better infrastructure, diverse, faster, etc.
5. Newer and more modern infrastructure
6. Without weapons
7. Much safer
8. More family-friendly in terms of infrastructure built for them (dependence on personal cars, public transportation, sidewalks, support for people with disabilities, parks, etc.)
9. A more diversified geography. You have practically everything in China most of the year, so you don't even feel the need to leave the country (from snowy mountains, to desert, to beaches, etc.)
10. Less social divisions
etc.

And you also have things like:
1. China trade surplus (https://www.theguardian.com/busines...lus-as-foreign-importers-rush-to-beat-tariffs) which basically means that all countries depend on you, that you are the most powerful and influential country on the planet, and you basically earn free money through the profit from the exports you make with all countries, and you depend less and less on other countries by decreasing your imports
2. Larger population (which is very good in very many ways as you as an individual, linked to access to diversity of products and services)
3. Higher economic growth (it's only a matter of time before it overtakes the USA not only in PPP but also in GDP)
4. Still buying cheap gas from Russia because you're indifferent about Ukraine
5. Much bigger green energy investments

And by far the most important:

China has a “near monopoly” on the mining of many raw materials that are critical for the production of semiconductors and other technologies. In 2022, China produced 68% of the world’s rare earth minerals, which are used for things like magnets and batteries, and 70% of its graphite, which is used in lubricants, electric motors, and even nuclear reactors. China processed 100% of the world’s graphite supply in 2022, 90% of rare earths, and 74% of cobalt (another critical mineral for batteries).
Of the minerals that the U.S. Geological Survey has identified as critical to the U.S. economy and national security, the U.S. was 100% reliant on imports for 12 of them. China is the top source for five out of 12 of these critical minerals, and the second or third top source for an additional three: Fluorspar, Galium, and Scandium.
