I’m set to get good A-level grades in Stem subjects (A*A*A) hopefully and have some good uni offers, but I’m not sure what I want to do. I always thought I wanted to be a pilot but I’m not too sure now, so I’ll probably take a gap year to think and work.

What are some good careers that involve maths or physics that can make you good money, something interesting as well?

Medicine is good but I don’t take bio and chemistry

what did you take?

howd you find physics, i got raped no way i get more than a C
At first I found it very hard, getting like Cs, but they main way to do well at physics is to deeply understand the content and learn how to apply it to various situations, for example, if you don’t understand a topic, let’s say Electromagnetism and just memorise how to do questions, you might get an unfamiliar situation in the exam and fail that question or you know the topic but haven’t done enough practice causing you to struggle to apply your knowledge.

Which engineering specialities pay the most ? I was thinking either finance, engineering, or becoming a pilot

nuclear according to google (in the UK) Im sure american engineers get payed double the highest income in the UK for an engineer

I did all the past papers then when it came to paper one the questions were different and struggled real bad paper 2 was ok (OCR A)

I did OCR A as well, I found the paper 1 six markers okay tbh, there was one on HR diagrams and stars, I forgot the other one. The centripetal forces question where you had to calculate the tension was quite confusing and so was the last gravitational fields question. How did you find paper 3?

not too bad, still gonna have to resit next year though

Nothing wrong with that, resit until you get the grades you need. What do you want to do or study ?

there was one with 2 experiments about some accerlartion on a slope i think and it should 2 tables for the 6marker

Taking a gap year once thats over and resits are done I'll probably apply for medicine since Im doing chemistry biology and physics

Did you do the UCAT or BMAT for medicine ?

How’d it go, if you take a gap year try to get lots of work experience in hospitals, Gps, labs ect
done that, worked at a pharmacy and did some hospital shit I didnt get the band for the uni I wanted to go to but by then I already decided to take a gap year which meant I would have to do it again anyway so I wasnt bothered

Docs don’t get paid well in the UK though, unless you’re a specialist or work in private. Do you plan on working here or moving abroad ?

If I do go through with medicine I dont plan on staying in the UK, but I will only do it if the gap year doesnt get me anywhere because Im trying to avoid the 6 years it takes to get the job in the first place

I think only finance, law, and management consulting can break you into the 6 figure range whilst in your 20s here. Not sure about engineering, maybe highly specialised areas like nuclear engineering or something.

how would you make 6 figures as a lawyer in your 20's? Isn't that usually for senior lawyers who are high up in the company, usually being old?

Magic circle law firms or elite American firms pay 6 figures once you’re qualified after 2-3 years once you graduate. You need to be the best of the best to get into these firms though. Very though competition.

damn that's pretty fucking nuts... how do you actually get accepted into these? just going to ivy league or is it lots of work experience? sheer talent? a mix of all 3? I'm thinking of possibly going corporate law.

or is it cucked to work for someone else?

In the Uk, you need to go to a top uni (Oxford,Cambridge, LSE,UCL ect), get tons of work experience and internships, and yeah be talented in the area you’re applying in. Also having some great achievements like writing your own research paper, winning competitions ect.

Here in the UK there are plenty of careers in the Military/ intelligence services, we have the ministry of defence, mi5,mi6, GCHQ. Might look into those careers tbh.

It's for sure interesting and good potential.

Downside is though. If wel make all 99% dudes aspie, and therefore incel.
I dunno what it is, with engineering. But all dudes in there, giga suck in getting and dealing with women

The idea I have of programmers is that they sit all day in front of their pc, the upside is that some of them get to work at home
But I think there are lot of jobs in engineering that you get to work in the field, life is shit and goes in a blink when you spend all day at home

Do some in depth research, it's one of the most important decisions you are about to make
Anything I can tell you would be worse than some hours of research.

You don’t get to choose.

You’ll get fucked by your non-NT and lack of HTN+ looks and end up unemployed or working like an absolute exploited slave no matter what decisions you make or grades you get.

I’m HTN already though mate, will try to get to HTN+. At the end of the day, most people who have good careers aren’t that good looking. I’ve seen it when I’ve done internships in the city. Plus plenty of software engineers, engineers, STEM based workers are very non-NT. Plenty of successful business owners that I know are also obese, old and tired.

Plus who said I’m non-NT? Not everyone on this forum is a complete dysgenic sperg.

What can I do with Python ? Right now I’m at an intermediate level with python and I can do some simple projects. Should I focus on learning C++ as well ?

If you're really good in math or physics, you can try to get a phd and go into academia, but in the uk I bet it would be pretty hard to get a professor position in a good uni. The main cons are the time it takes to complete everything, and also the possibility that you might not be a great researcher and thus end up at only an okay university. But the pros are that you'll have a good salary, and a shit ton of free time, plus travelling for conferences and shit is pretty fun.

That was just an edge case, really. The main careers I would consider in you position would be:

Data Science (pretty big these days)
Computer Science in general, i.e. software development (still good but getting kinda saturated)
Finance (research about the quantitative analyst position, aka "quant", it's a stupidly high paying career but very competitive)

I agree. I also think specialising in AI and machine learning would be a great asset as that’s what’s going to dominate the tech market in the next few decades.

yeah, c++ is a very good language to learn. If you learn it in depth you can also get bonus knowledge about low-level programming, pointers and that kind of thing.

But try to get a diverse skill set as well, general problem solving stuff.

This book is very good and it really broadened my horizons back in hs.

AI is obviously very hot atm and I don't see it slowing down any time soon, only problem is there's A LOT of people getting into the field, but it's a very good choice, especially you like the subject.
