If you're a lifter who has struggled with consistency, payment issues (some gyms cost $70/month), or lifting anxiety when in crowded public gyms, I encourage you to consider investing in a home gym setup. Before you stop reading, trust me — it's not that expensive. My initial home gym setup cost just £370 / $500.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 100kg (220lb) of weight plates: £110 / $150
- 7ft barbell: £60 / $81
- Weight bench: £47 / $63
- Squat rack with pull-up and dip station: £136 / $183
- 2 dumbbell bars: £16 / $22
When I first set up my home gym, I purchased all of these items from Amazon. None of it was second-hand. If you want to save even more money, you can look for options on eBay. Since setting up my home gym, I’ve never missed a workout, and I no longer have to wait for equipment to be available like I did in commercial gyms. Over seven months, the cost of this setup has essentially paid for itself compared to a monthly gym membership. It was one of the best investments I’ve ever made.
