Scorsese is overrated. Anything mafia is always overrated: Sopranos, Godfather, Scorsese, GTA. The Departed is the one I hate the most.

typically its to find distributors.
say u made a GOOD movie but u dont know distributors. they will come to these fetivals and if they dig it they will buy it and distribute it in their countries.

but since we r talking about the living GOD of cinema Martin Scorsese here,
its just to promote it to the award audiences, and have it run at different film festivals, like for example in TIFF in canada or in venice or in NYFF.
just gets the award spirit going.
also gives them time to edit shiet if needed.

Scorsese also made one of the best romantic films of all time (The Age of Innocence) yet no one talks about it.
He also made Casino the most cohesive gangster cinema
and most importantly Scorsese made the MOST SHATTERING MOVIE in the history of cinema -- The Last Temptation of Christ -- no oscar was given to him for it.
