I was just doing some research to see if calming substances like cannabis could actually be used as a looksmaxxing strategy to lower cortisol, but what I found was the complete opposite of what I expected. This thread is mainly targeted at anyone who smokes weed or owns a cart, but if you don't then I'd still appreciate feedback or correction on what I might've been wrong about. I've only studied anatomy in school and a little on the side, so I'm probably not the best guy to get info from.
It turns out cannabinoids like THC don't directly interfere with your brain chemistry like most people would assume. Instead, it binds to cannabinoid receptors and screws with neurotransmitter activity from there. These receptors regulate tons of stuff including fertility and homeostasis, which consequently effects your endocrine system and increases the production of stress hormones. This explanation is consistent with experimental studies, showing that cannabis users tend to consistently exhibit much higher cortisol levels than non-users.
This strong connection with your endocrine system also allows THC to decrease the secretion of GnRH (basically just sex hormone makers) by modulating regulation of the neurotransmitters glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid. In turn, it decreases sperm count, reduce serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels. You've probably noticed this yourself despite not knowing why, assuming that you've ever tried to jack off while high.
If you wanna go through the papers I've read then I'll put them down here.

The relationship between cannabis use and cortisol levels in youth at ultra high-risk for psychosis - PMC
Recent studies have posited a relationship between cannabis use and the biological stress system, but this critical relationship has not been evaluated during the ultra high-risk (UHR) period immediately preceding the onset of psychotic disorders. ...

The Effects of Cannabis on your Hormones | ZRT Laboratory
While cannabis is being legalized in more and more states, both the adverse and beneficial effects of its use are starting to be better understood. The active compound in cannabis, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is widely known to have effects on the brain, producing the “high” that many users are...

Effects of cannabinoids on neurotransmission - PubMed
The CB1 cannabinoid receptor is widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous system. Within the neuron, the CB1 receptor is often localised in axon terminals, and its activation leads to inhibition of transmitter release. The consequence is inhibition of neurotransmission via a...
