(Repost) (slight mistake info in previous post)

So recently i made a post explaining why black ppl can’t have typical hollow cheeks but someone mentioned thats because black ppl have a deeper canine fossa but that isn't true as well either and is another common misconception, black ppl don't have a deeper canine fossa they mostly have shallow canine fossa's but with protruding mouths

range of canine fossa depths from shallow (left) to deep (right):
IMG 1098

As you can see the cheekbones connect to the maxilla smoothly with shallow canine fossae forming a single unit, while deep canine fossae cause inward depressions that create separations between the bottoms of the cheekbones and the maxilla

black people have the most protruding palates and lower maxillas which give the illusion of having a deeper fossa.

However the canine fossa isn't actually deep itself its just the maxilla shape giving the illusion not projection.
IMG 1111

A deep fossa is meant to give a more horizontal line around the midface/mouth area, a more sunken mid face appearance with pronounced shadowing depending on lighting of course and give the illusion of recessed infra orbitals, however a protruding mouth will give a more vertical line around the midface/mouth area

IMG 1102

Both these guys have protruding mouths/lower maxilla which makes it look like they have deep fossa but if you check the midface you can tell they don't have a deep canine fossa

real example of a deep fossa would be these pics

You will never see black ppl with very deep hollows like this Its just the shape of the maxilla , not projection
IMG 1112

This is the skull of the average negroid/bantu west African etc and as you can see the canine fossa area is more shallow but the lower maxilla protrudes

Regardless the black examples with protruding mouth look very good anyways but i just wanted to clear this misconception that blacks have deeper fossa, they don’t, its actually white ppl who do.

Are we sure canine fossae is a depression and not the result of a more projected cheekbone and orbital (meaning the saggital distance of the eye socket is increased the deeper the canine fossae. (This is a question) looking at differences between men and woman in canine fossae deep ness might be a clue, if I’m right then I would expect woman to have shallower canine fossae. But thoughts?

Errrm. What about Somalis?

Yeah i think your right i agree that a more projected cheekbone and orbital should theoretically increase saggital distance and the canine fossa depth, but i would also argue that the inward depression is giving the illusion of a more projected cheekbone and orbitals, and
imo its both. For example In the first pic the cheekbone bone and orbital bone mass/projection in the deepest version doesn't seem that much different from the shallower version but because of the inward depression it makes the canine fossa deeper making the cheekbone seem more projected.

Also yeah its seems that women have a shallower canine fossa when i compared the difference between female/male skulls

What about the maxilla shape in Goodwins here?

and give the illusion of recessed infra orbitals
This isn't a good thing....

People need to realize the less cheek fat in general can give this look and one doesn't need a deep canine depression to get the illusion of the aforementioned look
