Books activate your imagination. They're a sort of interactive entertainment whereas shows are completely passive. Video games are probably better, but I prefer to relax when being entertained, and I can't eat and play a game at the same time but can do so with a book. And with a book I can look away for 5 secs to yawn or something or blow my nose, with most games I have to be constantly engaged.
