Before when bored kids would pursue sports or read. Now kids are glued to their ipads and gain nothing of value. This conditions them as they grow older to default to their devices and make them docile to the happenings of the world around them.
News from social media creates a narrative that keeps them in their metaphorical cages. They're too busy stuck to their phone to notice the inconsistencies between the virtual and real world. The internet is a form of control, while appearing as a blessing with the vast amount of information being available.
Even this is an illusion. Have you noticed how all of the search functions of various social media and search engines are awful in their ability to pull and display information that pretains to what you were looking for.(YouTube, Instagram, Google, etc) The algorithms are there to distract you from any meaningful growth and keep you trapped, always pushing the narrative most appealing to ((them)).
