I've been dealing with a painful TMJ disorder accompanied by tense facial muscles, jaw popping, headaches, neck stiffness and many other symptoms for six years now and have been experimenting with boron and it's the only thing that actually seems to help tremendously with the pain and other symptoms as well.

Unfortunately, I'm experiencing weird side effects even at tiny doses for which I can't seem to find any explanation. Every time I take it, I get irritable and it messes up my sleep. Last night up until this afternoon I've also had terrible brain fog, confusion and my short-term memory went out of the window, which almost felt like a delirious episode. My brain just didn't seem to work anymore and I would forget what I was thinking whilst thinking it. That was after a single 6 mg dose and I was mentally sharp before that. I have no idea what is causing these reactions, but I'd like to keep taking the boron because it helps so much with my TMJ issues. On the other hand, I can't function properly when my brain is mush and have therefore only taken it sporadically because it always makes me feel and sleep like shit.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing these side effects and how to possibly mitigate them?

Sorry DNR the whole thing but are you flexing your face a lot or hard mewing? That can cause TMJ because of the excessive tensing and force on your facial muscles

No. I clench and grind my teeth in my sleep, but my issues stem from orthodontic treatment I had as a teenager.

Which boron form and at what time did you take it

I switched to sodium tetraborate, which I tolerate well. I was using bororganic glycine at the time of making this thread and I assume it was the glycine that had caused these side effects, not the boron itself.

Boron increases your cortisol and messes with your thyroid, it's a bad supplement

Can you provide any scientific evidence to back up these claims? Current research suggests that only excessive amounts of boron can produce negative effects, mostly on reproductive health and fertility, but that association couldn't be confirmed in humans, even when exposed to extreme levels.

3 mg is nothing and some populations get 10x as much from their diet and drinking water. Higher boron intakes are inversely correlated with the incidence of arthritis.
