One of the answers:

"The oldest soldier in my platoon in Bosnia was 32. We called him “grandpa”. He was quite fit (he didn’t drink alcohol or smoked) but there were only a few situations where we had to go near our physical limits.

During the Kosovo War, our oldest soldier was 28. This war was much more physically demanding. We were on the move practically all the time, night and day. Our longest battle in Kosovo lasted 24 days while in Bosnia, we never fought longer than four or five days. Several answers in this threat assume that war means staying in a FOB and doing patrols from time to time. For this kind of activity, a soldier can indeed be much older, forty, or even more.

However, when it comes to guerrilla and small unit warfare in a conflict that lasts for months or even years, you’ll feel every bone in your body when you’re over thirty. The older you are, the more time you need to recover, something which is impossible in a high-intensity conflict. You may last for a couple of weeks but not longer.

You’re simply too old."

"Muh men age like wine! 40 is NOT old! :soy: "

Jfl.

The brutal reality is human lifespan wasn't even meant to go much past 40 or 50. Without modern comfort and medicine, a 30-year-old would be more like a 45-year-old. Lack of physical labor and medicine literally shaves off 15 years of aging.

But when shit gets tough, any bullshit about how you're 'not that old' falls into pieces. 30 year olds are literally just a decade older than prime soldiers yet they still get mogged.

You are old at 35. Just accept it.

War is the ultimate fitness test. Endless struggle for months or even years on end. Older males don't stand a chance.

That's because they don't expect them to come back alive.

Giga cope. They don't want old soldiers because they can't be indoctrinated as easily, they question orders, they are more aware of risks and are more risk averse.

That Quora faggot makes it out like war is some grueling around the clock fighting ordeal. Most people just sit on their ass at an FOB or Base waiting for relief or orders.

Cope. Ancient spartans used to live up to 50+ and king leonidas was in his 50s before he died. Most of what you do in the military is redundant busy work anyways with mabye 1% of what you do is actual action.

modern militaries are fucked,a bunch of dyed hair obese people in it so the requirements are way less. as an oldcel you will just be assigned to flying drones or working the soup kitchens with obese pink hairs

You're confusing anti-insurgency warfare (basically what the US spent the last 20 years doing in the middle-east) with actual no shit war. The latter involves troops constantly being on the move over large amounts of land and your physical abilities WILL be pushed to the limits. If there are older troops in your unit, they will turn into a bottleneck.

It is similar in football/soccer. For every position except goal keeper 30 years is considered old. If you play fifa career mode, every player starts to get worse year by year after the age of 30.

Saying life ends at 30 sounds like a troll/shitpost but it honestly isn't that far away from the truth. Literally everything about your life will start going downhill at that point. You only get to truly 'live' between the ages of 14-29. It's all downhill after that.

I agree, although 0-14 can be great as well if you have good parents

most people's lives peak at 10, afterwards it's over. makes sense, because females start losing virginity at that age. no virgin wife=life not worth lviing

Disagree tbh. I think it more has to do with our shit diets and the like. The infant mortality rate in the paleolithic times was high but if you lived past infancy you were projected to hit 70 year old.

Skeletons of elderly ppl back then were as robust as a 25 year old today.

Not true most special forces applicants are between 27 and 35, in those earlier 20s soldiers are accumulating experience and by there late 20s early 30s are still in top physical condition aswell as with lots of experience so a prime soldier is actually around 30

Also in more ancient times some of alexander the greats troops from the silver sheild pikemen veterans who were in there 60s and even 70s fought a battle outnumbered against a more normal army of younger soldiers, the silver shields whipped there arse loosing like 50 and killing several thousand

Now being younger is better but even better is to just nor be a pussy

the only people who think 30+ is over for your athleticism are people who were never healthy to begin with who've been deteriorating from shit lifestyles the entire time

unless you're talking professional sports where tiny differences matter a 32 year old is not necessarily gonna get giga mogged in warfare by a 20 year old and even then there are top tier athletes who are almost 40 and OP is talking war which is sitting on your ass most the time

If you stay fit in the younger years its possible to maintain that level for a while. But some men never bother ever getting into top tier shape so the muscle memory can't do its job. The same also applies to some degree cardiovascular ability. A former olympic swimmer can still get into very good shape and cardio ability in his 30s , provided he did a lot of effort in his 20s.

Also when shit hits the fan the acceptable age the army takes goes up a lot. At the end of the day with all these tanks and coffins and submarines its possible for someone who is not physically fit still find a place in the military. They are going to get rekt in an actual war situation as war is incredibly stressful and will exhaust even young fit men , but they can still be useful in their respective combat roles as long as their not foot soldiers.

100 percent agree even with sports players and athletes there prime is 30 early 30s cause it's in there younger years accumulating skill and by 30 your at a point were you haven't really deteriorated but also have years up your sleeve

Think federa jocavic and there's plenty of rugby players two

Yes I remember hearing that there were volunteers in the Ukrainian Foreign Legion who were having health problems from fighting because some of them are middle-aged

If armies/governments valued young, healthy men that are able to fight wars, then the army wouldn't pay such a worthless shit wage lol.

Keep coping.

War is not as physically demanding as a professional sport where a 1% decrease in physical fitness matters.

The average trained 35 year old who has been taking fitness seriously the past 10 years would fit mog the average 25 year old who is sitting on their fat ass eating Cheetos.

But obviously if you put 2 equally conditioned men one older and one younger then the Younger will practically always do better. But to say that one becomes useless after 30 is silly.

Especially now with so much of war being done with drones and tanks and airplanes and helicopters, their is 100% a place for old cels in the military. Their fat, no problem send them to the tank.

It is for the combat positions where youth is valued.
