Anime characters begin short to relate to the Japanese audience. Then after a time skip arc they all grow to respectable heights. They are not impressive heights, but in Japanese standards they are gigamoggers. Even the author have to betray their audience so their characters don't get disrespected. Fucking brutal.

Everybody says that but I think the similarity is pretty clear. Especially when you compare to western cartoons.
