So why does the state still have a housing crisis? In part, fewer people are spreading out across more housing. And in most large cities, there is not enough new housing to make up for this shift.

This is a complete fiction. There is still a housing shortage in CA because there are millions of illegal aliens in CA not included in the official population numbers. The illegals can afford the high rents because they live 8 in a house normally occupied by 3 people.

Maybe, I am not great at predicting the future. But the chart only starts at 1987, 33 years of low inflation until 2021, average annual official inflation of about 2% (3% real world). We are pprobably in a high inflationary cycle similar to that of 1973 to 1981, average offical annual inflation of about 8% (12% real world).
