A good camera and optimal lense plays a big factor in how you look in pictures. I want to upgrade my pics on instagram, because they are only taken with shitty android camera.

What should I buy and is there a guide here what to look out for in order to get the best looking pics?

Well selfie cams are always quite close so yeah they distort.
There's a difference between a camera in a phone that has a tiny sensor and a camera that's basically 1 entire system built around the sensor. Megapixels mean fuck all. Some of the best camera's have like 40mp while some smartphones have 80+ sometimes and yet look worse.

Oh, yeah it'd be pretty good for that. Fuji cams have something called film simulation that gives it that classic vintage aestheic kinda.
