The best game ever created is Pathologic and any sequel, I said it. It's pure torture, literary in scope, like reading a great Russian novel. Very low dopamine gameplay, though.

I don't mean to sound elitist (I do), but if you haven't played this game, I don't know what you're doing (I just needed an excuse to talk about this game and how I'm SOOOOO cool, avant-garde and intellectual because I played it)

I don't actually recommend Pathologic to normal human beings, I'd recommend you watch a few reviews or video essays (because there are MANY so high quality video essays, most of them 1-2 hours analyzing this masterpiece of a game). The game is hard, but not like Dark Souls hard, it's frustratingly far, so much so that the developers were forced to add an "easy mode" feature (despite that not being the vision) and even that game mode is still somewhat complicated.

Also, the dialogue is a few steps away from literary prose. 100% watch some videos on the game first, and then consider if you actually want to play the thing at all. If you do decide to go through with it, it's a transformative game, the game's commentary is super insight and the story is very deep and profound, an experience I believe most people shouldn't miss, but majority shouldn't attempt lol

Also, if you ever decide to play it, if you don't it's perfectly fine, I mean to emphasize this A LOT, this game is VERY GOOD but it's an acquired taste, I knew about it for years but it took me a while to actually buy it, and it took me even longer to play it through the end with the intended difficulty. It's really an acquired taste.

So, if you decide to play it, please start with Pathologic 2, DO NOT START WITH PATHOLOGIC 1, it's their basically the same games (I mean not really), but P2 is the "newer" better version mechanically. And if Pathologic 2 is hard and frustrating, P1 is just a kick in the nuts while someone pours gasoline over you and lights you on fire.

Honestly, watch some of the video essays on it first, RagnarBlox, SulMatul or Charlatan Wonder made amazing videos going over the game, I personally like the SulMatul ones but they're a bit slower pace and touch more. There are other video essays, but they're more about the side stories of the game (like Marble Nest, a DLC, or Quarantine, the new "demo" for Pathologic 3, which is technically Pathologic 2 but like the 2nd part) or they're about Pathologic 1.

Mind you, it's a demo, but forget about having to buy the game to figure out if you will like it or not, THOUGH MECHANICALLY IT FUNCTIONS VERY DIFFERENT TO P2 WHICH IS MORE SURVIVAL-BASED, this one is more logic, detective-based??
