You can ask, sure.

I am 17, the underbite is a couple millimeters, and there is a gap tiny gap between my two upper and bottom teeth. am i too old to get face pulling gear? because maxilla surgery sounds expensive and i dont have sleep apnea im pretty sure

I think it’s worth trying if done adequately, with an MSE + bone anchorage, but probably surgery is more predictable.
You’ll need braces or aligners anyway.

Ill speak soon to an orthodontist need to get this maxilla issue fixed lol my undereye support is pretty bad and my zygos are not defined. Also why exactly would I need mse?

To open the facial sutures and “relax” them so it allows for a good protraction.

even if you don’t need expansion it’s better to open those sutures and either compensate in the lower jaw for the expansion or, if that is not posible, to close the MSE device after the sutures have been “relaxed”

Just wondering, since the MSE stays for a while after expansion is done to prevent relapse, protraction can still be attempted during this time right? How long do the sutures remain "unstable" after initially being pried apart?

Honestly, I have no idea

You can't fix underbite with braces and because you're 17 a face puller doesn't work as much anymore.

But anyways, dentists usually mask your underbite by pulling your top teeth to the front which doesn't fix your underbite but masks it.

I think because you're 17, you should get started on the face puller + expander ASAP and wear it religiously cause there's still like a year left b4 you fully develop.

But just know in the end, you may very well need surgery cause you won't be satisfied with the results derived from facepuller + braces.

Ive heard of facepullers working in adults it would just take longer (in theory) Im willing to wear it for 1-2 years everyday if that means improving facial asthetics im too high inhib for invasive surgery like lefort especially since my whole maxilla is recessed

Then do it now. Don't waste time

Ask for bone-anchored maxillary protraction, that should work at your age. It is placing under local anaesthesia a couple of plates in the chin. It allows to wear the elastics 24/7, it is not seen and it prevents the chin going backwards, as the chin cup of the face mask does

And this would be cheaper then mse and face mask? If I needed to do mse later for whatever reason I could right?

Also im assuming there would be downward force applied to my maxilla what if I wanted to move it up (to lower my gonial angle )

It’s done simultaneously with MSE. And you can use a facemask at home too to increase the forces... but be careful with your TMJs your orthodontist needs to be used to doing this.
