1. You do need DHT to get beard growth
2. No, because follicle telomere activation is largely genetic. If they aren't activating naturally by age 18-25 and are still in the white thin vellus stage, they will likely never activate.

If you are genetically predetermined to not have your beard follicles activate (like most asian men for example) there is a much cheaper solution than transplants though, it's minoxidil.

As long as you have the follicles there (you can use a flashlight and look in the mirror for small white vellus hairs) you will eventually get terminal dark beard growth there as long as you apply the 5% minoxidil solution day and night for 6-36 months.

Brand is irrelevant, but there is no point applying Rogaine when there are exact copies of the product on various websites for 1/3rd of the price per 50ml bottle.

There are no confirmed side effects beyond dry skin and ED if you use way excessive doses that make it go systemic (such as 5ml instead of 1ml for years).

Most of the serious side effects like dizziness or fast heartbeat only happen to people who apply incorrect huge doses like 5, 10ml in one go.
It is after all a heart medication which was accidentally discovered to also grow out hair follicles in the 1950's. You need to be just as careful with it as with any other drug.

Moisturizing after you rinse off the minoxidil is pretty important.
Or if you don't want to do that, get the minoxidil foam instead of the propylene glycol liquid.
