Since you're young its the perfect time to take it serious rn. I wish I took it serious when I was like 16. I kept fkin around and now I'm 6ft 145lbs or something.

Maingain for some years, pack on size. Make sure you can maingain for atleast a year until ur face starts looking bloated and higher bf%.
Stay under 15% bodyfat tho. In 1 year you'll have a decent physique. In 3 years you'll look bigger than most ur age and even older.

It's a term that is a bit different from the traditional bulk and cut strategy.

The traditional bulk and cutting phase is basically
- Eat 500+ calories over your maintenance, which is the amount of food u need to maintain your weight. But you gain too quickly at that surplus and you'll gain unnecessary bodyfat over time. Then you'll spend multiple months trying to burn off the fat, and it may take longer than you want and you may lose some muscle.

Maingaining can be summed up into two parts:
- You are ~15% bodyfat: eat around your maintenance so you can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. Staying roughly at the same weight, which is called a body recomposition.

- You are less than 15% bodyfat: eat a little over your maintenance so you can gain muscle and little to no fat. You want to eat no more than 300 calories over your maintenance. Focus on eating a little over your maintenance. Then measure your waist weekly and make sure you don't gain more than an inch on your waist in a bulking phase. If you get stronger on your lifts, visibly bigger and your waist stays roughly the same. Then you're maingaining correctly. You may not even need to cut if you're a beginner and already fairly lean. You can pack up a lot of size over multiple years whilst staying lean.

TLDR; Maingaining is the better approach for people who don't like adjusting their food intake so much, going between higher calorie plans and lower calorie plans. Especially if you care about staying lean and not becoming fat bloated pig. Eat a little over your maintenance.
