If I could only eat salad I would, but my parents buy a lot of junk food and don't cook that healthy. It's hard to completely avoid it unless I want to starve. If I limit myself to 3 meals a day and maybe one snack, will I lose a lot of weight in a year or so?

As long as you’re in a caloric deficit you will scientifically always lose weight. You will have fucked up skin and a fucked up appetite but you will lose weight. If you eat 2,000 calories worth of burgers in a day compared to someone who eats 2,000 calories worth of salad in a day you will both lose weight. Weight loss is purely caloric. It is easier to lose weight when eating healthy because it actually makes you feel full. Healthy food will actually fill you up and make you want to stop eating while junk food does the opposite which is why it’s so difficult to lose weight without eating healthy.

Caloric deficit. It’s more painful than eating healthy

You’ll probably end up malnourished if you do a calorie deficit on junk.

So take a multivitamin.
