Can retainers fuck up a forward growth

Just had my braces removed and now I'm supposed to wear plastic retainers every night
I'm scared it might recess my maxilla and encourage downwards growth
Do any of you have experienced something like this?
I dont mew and I'm 19 btw

nah i have really good forward growth and i’ve wore my retainer for 3+ years

It makes it tougher to mew but you can still do it, as long as you're mewing all throughout the day and swallowing/chewing properly, you'll be fine.
Oh and btw I didn't wear my retainers consistently because I'm a dumb fuck, and my teeth are crooked again (nowhere near as before but still), so wear that shit unless you wanna fuck your teeth
