I've been a NEET for 4 years since graduating college. I don't have any work experience. Could I get away with lying that I did some kind of internship in college? Would they bother to background check that if the internship was like 4-5 years ago? If they do, can I just say that it was unpayed and that the company is no longer functional anymore?

Probably could if you had a family friend who had a high up position in your field and could larp for you

Otherwise your best bet is to find something that doesn’t require any work experience (kind of difficult) and just work your way up

It'll be difficult to fraud, especially if you live in the west. If you do lie about working for a now defunct company, they'll check the government page for company listings to see if it ever existed.

It’s possible but very hard. Alternatively you can Larp as having some sort of extenuating circumstances like caring for a sick family member, having critical depression ect to explain the gap. That might help your odds a bit.

Also can you not do any off season internships or entry level positions that you can do instead ?

What are you after exactly? A grad role ?

Yea, I can explain like that, but the problem is passing the resume screen and getting the interview in the first place. Should I just put the explanation on my resume? lol

Yes or add it in the comments during the application

I was hoping to find any kind of job that has "Analyst" in it's title, or anything that's finance or accounting adjcent. I intend on doing a Masters, but I really want the work experience before doing that so that I can be in a better position to compete for internships and actual well-paying roles.

My degree is a meme tier though, it's economics. I did build a few programming (web app based) projects just to puff up the resume, but those projects are "unrelated" to the positons I'm applying.

Hmmm. Yea, I'll do that then. I'll make a summary section and add that in. I've only started looking and sent out for 50 applications the past week, so I'll wait until I hit 100 with no responses before doing that.

Econ isn't meme tier jfl, I did Econ and got into a top company straight away. You also have some programming knowledge so you could do a Data Analyst course (SQL, Python, R, etc) which could help your career prospects. Google has a Data Analytics course you can do self-taught.

Did you have a internship or work exp prior to getting hired? Yea, I guess I'll learn that and make some projects then slap them on my resume.

Why can't you just fraud about work experience jfl. Internships sounds like useless crap and school project moreover.

Just find some existing outsource companies, don't look for top 10, better like top 300 and in Canada as example if you live in US. And give yourself 2-3 years experience.

Probs could get away with lying about being Bussiness analyst or Project Manager, these jobs pay wall and don't really require knowing anything(you can learn it in a week jfl). All you need is being able to communicate with people.
They actually never call to them.

I did this in europe so idk how it would work In US.
