The richest Dalit in some village is still a Dalit and is below the poorest of other castes. Usually if a Dalit drinks from a glass you’re supposed to throw the glass away cause it’s considered contaminated. My grandparents practiced this and they were considered progressive for their time since they let Dalits into their house at all for work.

The best analogy I can think of is unironically gypsies in Europe. Some actually became quiet wealthy in Poland during the 90s as they had connections outside the country unlike most Poles to import random things from the west. Did this result in better treatment? No, of anything it resulted in the opposite where Poles angry that the Gypsies were getting rich decided to do a pogrom and burn all their houses to make them poor again.

I don’t believe in the caste system, but my family is Brahmin. The people you’re talking about are a really small and highly westernized minority tbh.

Most Brahmins still practice all sorts of caste based discrimination. There are entire apartment complexes in India which are basically Brahmin only lmao.

Things are definitely improving when it comes to caste discrimination though. Instead of everyone hating Dalits, society in India seems to be flipping to everyone hating Muslims or Christians.
