What is castor oil

Castor oil has been used for centuries in places like Africa, South Asia and so much more, used for things like natural medicine and most importantly hair loss. Castor oil comes from a plant called Ricinus communis which has lots of ricinoleic acid which promotes hair growth, skin quality and gut health if ingested orally. Well, how does ricinoleic acid even affect hair growth for eyelashes and eyebrows.

You could purchase Castor Oil from places like holland and Barret or any other store that sells it as it is DMA approved.

What is DHT

DHT, standing for dihydrotestosterone, is a type of hormone that helps the development of male features like hair for example. High levels of DHT can contribute to hair loss. There is no proven evidence that ricinoleic acid can block DHT to reduce hair loss, but is a potential treatments for hair loss, yet their are much better alternatives such as medical DHT suppression.

What will it do for your eye area (Eyelashes/Eyebrows)

As mentioned in many articles, there is no solid evidence regarding castor oil promoting hair growth itself, but it may stimulate it by increasing the blood circulation required to increase the rate of growth. How exactly does this work? The ricinoleic acid within the castor oil can act as a reactant. Within your skin you have prostaglandins, which when stimulated can react to cause blood vessel to widen, leading to vasodilation and resulting in more blood flowing through areas of your body like locations of hair in result potentially promoting hair growth where you originally applied it.

How should you apply Castor oil

In order for this to even work, you may use the correct technique to apply.

Please note do be careful before you use Castor oil, if you have irritation before, while or after applying please wash and remove all the castor oil to stop the irritation and this can lead to damage.

Remove any makeup you may have had on if so. You could use your fingers to apply or any other accurate applicant to apply.

You should be applying Castor oil at night mostly, so the affects can happen while asleep. You can do this along side any other facial cleanses you do at night.

Eyelashes

For eyelashes, you should close your eyes to avoid getting any castor oil in your eyes, and apply gentle with small amounts of oil (around a pea size) onto what ever you are using, and essentially brush your eyes gentle along the edges of your eyelashes. After applying, you can dap of excess and you should be done.

Eyebrows
Do pretty much the same for eyebrows, apply a pea sized amount to your applicant either fingers or brushes or whatever and brush back and forth along your eyebrows. Then remove the excess.

Final Notes

As many of you are aware there is much controversy about castor oil. Some people say its worth it some say not due to the lack of evidence that it does work, yet proven to work for some people. There are many alternatives out their for example minoxidil or rosemary oil. Minoxidil is DMA approved and you can get it over the counter as a topical form while oral is required as a prescription, but castor oil can also be used as a 2 in 1 for hair and skin, and is also a natural product as it comes from a plant.

For example minoxidil, users can experience hair lose in initial stages of applying and then regrowth after which can be off-putting, so it depends if you want to take the risk.
