Actually super easy. China are trying really hard to increase their soft power, and a way to do that is to open up their universities to foregin students/lecturers.

Her problem is she took the wrong courses in high school. She's good at history, geography, and literature, but her father didn't want to pay for her to go to HS to study something she could pick up at a library (high school's not free over here). So she chose science, math, and sonething else instead.

The lady who brought me over had a former classmate who's a professor there now. I'm white and she thought I was handsome, so she must have thought I would be a good representative of a typical American. This was in 2011.

I only went to high school myself, lol.
