In 5 years time we'll be looking at ChatGPT and other AI applications that are yet to come out the same way we view Google Maps today and have a hard time not using them and living without them.

Extremely bad for many jobs and professions that are about to get overtaken by the AI and millions of people losing their jobs.

The only thing we can do while living in a society where AI has overtaken us is form worker unions for pretty much every white-collar profession as well. Form laws that state that a certain amount of experts or workers in a field would still have to be employed legally and cannot be replaced by the AI, though they can and would be encouraged to use AI tools that make work faster and easier for them. Which would also benefit the company.

One scenario that I am hoping for is that many more profitable startups get founded, so there won't be shortage of jobs, but the AI generates more businesses which could consequently employ more people.

It won’t at the end of the day money has to go around. Invisalign is form of AI but it is still distributed via a dentist. In essence, complex jobs will still require expertise of a human and simpler jobs require social skills which AI is far off from.

But it’s a great tool to get started with. It’s basically Google if it had a brain.

ChatGPT is still far from replacing most jobs. Currently, it's just an advanced LLM that acts as a holistic alternative to search engines.

To replace most white-collar jobs these chatbots would have to reach AGI (General intelligence). Chat GPT 4 is coming out next week and it's estimated to have the reasoning abilities of a 9-year-old. Bear in mind that GPT 4.0 has been in the making for 3 years and the network will only have a neuron count 5x that of its predecessor 3.0.

A lot of the AI hype is venture capitalists and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley using it as a buzzword to get investments for their projects. In reality, AI is still far away from replacing jobs on a meaningful scale. However, LLMs like GPT is/will be very useful to enhance labour productivity and make our lives easier. It's great for automating mundane tasks when given the correct prompts but is nowhere near multifaceted or "smart" enough to generate whole projects on its own.
