FIRST THORIUM REACTOR

USA could have had the edge but they were terrible back then for building nukes so they abandoned the plan.

Now China has finally built it and it shows tremendous progress towards Nuclear Energy

Chinese scientists have achieved a milestone in clean energy technology by successfully adding fresh fuel to an operational thorium molten salt reactor, according to state media reports.

It marks the first long-term, stable operation of the technology, putting China at the forefront of a global race to harness thorium – considered a safer and more abundant alternative to uranium – for nuclear power.
The development was announced by the project’s chief scientist, Xu Hongjie, during a closed-door meeting at the Chinese Academy of Sciences on April 8, the official Guangming Daily reported on Friday.
The experimental reactor, located in the Gobi Desert in China’s west, uses molten salt as the fuel carrier and coolant, and thorium – a radioactive element abundant in the Earth’s crust – as the fuel source. The reactor is reportedly designed to sustainably generate 2 megawatts of thermal power.

Some experts see the technology as the next energy revolution and claim that just one thorium-rich mine in Inner Mongolia could – theoretically – meet China’s energy needs for tens of thousands of years, while producing minimal radioactive waste.

During the April 8 meeting, Xu said China “now leads the global frontier”, according to Guangming Daily.

Basically, if this project is progressed by the CCP they could use the thorium deposits in Inner Mongolia to fuel their energy needs for a long long time. They dont have to rely on unstable countries anymore. That is why they are very keen on this type of reactor

Basicslly, from what I got this is a molten salt reactor run on thorium which means using an abundant fuel. Also the reactor is inherently safer than traditional reactors since if it overheats the molten salt melts completely and this stops the reactor safely.

Abundant fuel and safer reactor means win win
Also the nuclear waste is not as radioactive as the traditional waste so again a win and a larger amount of fuel converts to heat energy so another win

This is what makes a molten salt thorium reactor so attractive

What about Space Force like is that still a thing ? Im clueless on Politics btw sorry only asking because it seems
like a secret weapon America could be keeping from the public to unleash later on as a hidden Ace.

Terribly expensive even for the USA. I think there is a concept but it is nothing like presented

A lot of criticism about nuclear (fission) plants comes from the difficulty and health hazards of mining Uranium (which is also not a super common material), and the very long radioactivity of the waste generated by nuclear fission of suitable Uranium isotopes. You'd have to store the waste safely for hundreds of years, which is borderline impossible to guarantee. Even storage sites declared as safe decades ago are showing signs of premature breakdown, which endangers water supplies in a large radius, potentially poisoning entire regions of a country.

The Chernobyl and Fukushima incidents have also struck fear into the hearts of boomer politicians, so e.g. Angela M*rkel of Germany just decommissioned some of the safest nuclear reactors in the world on a whim. She also flooded Germany with 2 million shitskins in 2015 alone. Press S to spit.

China is now picking up where the West has stopped out of boomer dementia and stupidity. They are also actively researching transmutation to make classical nuclear waste less dangerous, and even usable.

Yeah there are some plans to tweak the advantages of molten salt reactors to make them more suitable for large scale energy requirements

Their hands are tied since democracy means listening to idiots and the idiots are very vocal about nuclear waste nonsense. China is authoritarian so they can so this without anyone blinking an eye
