I know plenty of western born ‘muslims’ who do ramadan etc, the same muslims who throw around ‘wallahi’ every 30 seconds (literally swearing on their god over complete BS). They’ll also disagree with about half of the islamic teachings that are deemed ‘unacceptable’ by western standards. Most western born muslims would object to the concept of pre teen marraige, but their religion (what they claim to believe in) doesn’t. It’s the constant inconsistency for me that makes me certain none of them truly believe.

Fact is that they were born into a ‘muslim identity’ which is one that they portray to the world due to parental influence, once you’ve established an identity as ‘a muslim’ it becomes hard to abandon, they don’t truly believe in islam, they follow it’s vague stereotypical traditions because it’s easier for them than to create a new identity for themselves. Their lack of true faith also makes them extremely insecure, if you ever question whether one of these people truly believe what they claim to, they’ll get very offended.
