Most clothing store mirrors are distorted. They stretch you vertically to make you look skinnier and taller so you think you look better in those clothes.

Gym mirrors are opposite, they are stretched horizontally so you think you look bigger and wider in their gym.

the story showed how they werent getting sells cause the lighting in mirrors was bad and when they got better lighting they made more sales cause people liked how they looked more. big majority of stores dont understand this and they still have shit lighting, look up "I look ugly in store mirrors" and there are hundreds of reddit/quora posts so dont worry, just trust the mirror in which you look best, cause its the most accurate one
