I wouldn't know, but I doubt that was the process. What I'm guessing is that this was made with a software that allows the user to model human faces with intense precision and freedom.

nah, that won't be it, you can see artifacts of about 6 different people's shoulders, same way they made these images for phenotypes, they get thousands of faces at like 0.1% opacity and put them over each other
