The thing is, most people don't have BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder): most ugly people know that they are ugly and instinctively act accordingly, and most attractive people know they are attractive and instinctively act accordingly. That means that when an ugly person attempts to "act confident," people -- and especially women who are sensitive to such things -- can sense that this is not real confidence based on being secure in one's qualities, but fake confidence, and will see you as pathetic.
I'm 5'7", NW2, not the best looking face, and pretending to have "confidence" as if I don't know that I'm unattractive just cannot work. People know that you know that you're ugly, they can tell that I'm intelligent enough to be aware of my objectively low attractiveness, and so faking it is totally pointless. They know that I know that I'm unattractive and faking it.
Maybe if I looked like a retard, people could fall for thinking that my confidence is not fake, because a retard can be dumb enough to have real confidence despite being unattractive. But I'm clearly intelligent enough that when I "act confidence," people immediately think something along the lines of "What is he doing? He knows that he is ugly, and he knows that we can see that he is ugly, so he's not fooling anyone with his stupid act."
Confidence based on nothing at all is a total meme. If you have nothing strong going for you in terms of physical attractiveness, if you're objectively unattractive, then don't attempt to compensate with confidence, because the fakeness of it all is obvious to everyone.
