Coping is better than not coping 99% of the time. I am pro cope. If the cope somehow lands you where you want to be in life, continue to shamelessly cope. Intellectuals can be their own worst enemy. It’s like the IQ bell curve meme where: - people on the low end don’t even realize they’re coping (and still get results accidentally) - people in the middle realize when they’re coping and then stop - people on the high end realize when they’re coping but continue. Examples of useful copes: - Believing you are the most attractive person in any room - Believing she will fall for you as soon as you open your mouth - Assuming every woman you talk to is attracted to you - Believing that your inner state will be reflected externally (arguably not even a cope if you’re not a materialist) There is an argument to be made that no matter what you believe or what position you hold, there is a cope in there somewhere. Even the biggest doomers and genetic determinists are coping. Using an ideology to constantly justify a lack of autonomy. So you might as well cope usefully rather than uselessly.
